Why Give to Wiregrass Pets?
What makes Wiregrass Pets different from other animal welfare rescue organizations in Houston County?
The new shelter will function as a nonprofit operated shelter that contracts with the City of Dothan and Houston County to care for all stray and abandoned dogs and cats within Houston County, Alabama.
Wiregrass Pets is a 501c3 nonprofit that was established for the sole reason to build a new animal shelter and to assume responsibility as manager of the animal shelter. As a nonprofit, Wiregrass Pets is governed by a board of directors and by-laws with a very clear mission and vision and its sole purpose is to serve the community and better the lives of our community members and companion animals.
When our new shelter opens, Wiregrass Pets will manage and operate the shelter and be in charge of all onsite animal care, animal placement through adoptions, fostering, and transport, and all humane education and community programming including a pet resource pantry, volunteer opportunities for all ages, summer camps, movie nights, birthday parties, literacy programs, puppy and kitten yoga, and much more. Our mission is to serve all of Houston County, this is not just a Dothan City partnership, but a partnership with all of Houston County.
