Does fostering count as volunteering?

YES!  We consider fostering full time volunteering at home!

If you’re not comfortable with a shelter environment, fostering is a fantastic way to volunteer for Wiregrass Pets and get the whole family involved!

Long-term Foster

Help us prevent the heartbreak of abandonment and the stress that comes with too many moves.

Some of our dogs and cats need a little extra time before they find their forever families. By opening your home as a long-term foster, you provide them with stability, love, and comfort while they wait. Pets in this program remain with you until adoption, which may last several weeks or even longer than a month. Every day they spend with you brings them closer to their happy ending, and your care makes all the difference.❤️

Short-term Foster

Help us ease the stress of shelter life by giving pets a safe, loving place to rest while they wait for their forever home.

Some of our dogs and cats just need a safe place to land for a little while. As a short-term foster, you give them comfort, care, and stability during the days or weeks leading up to adoption or transfer. These stays are temporary, but the impact is lasting — every short-term foster helps reduce stress, prevent shelter overcrowding, and prepare pets for their forever families. Your kindness during this short time can make a lifetime of difference.🐾

Want to make a difference but fostering isn’t the right fit?

Baby Bottle Foster

Help us give orphaned kittens and puppies the nurturing start they deserve.

Our tiniest kittens and puppies need round-the-clock love and attention to grow strong and healthy. As a bottle baby foster, you provide warmth, feedings, and gentle care during the most critical stage of their lives. These little ones may only be with you for days or weeks, but your nurturing gives them the best chance at a happy, healthy future. Your care during this delicate time truly means the world to them. 🍼

Slumber Party

Give them a night of love, rest, and comfort while they dream of their forever home.

By hosting a “slumber party,” you give a dog the chance to relax, enjoy extra love, and experience life in a home, even if just for the weekend. These short getaways help dogs de-stress, show off their true personalities, and get them one step closer to adoption. Your night of cuddles and fun could be the first chapter in their happily-ever-after. 🐾

Dog DAy OUT

Help us give dogs a fun day out full of walks, car rides, and tail wags.

Some of our dogs just need a fun break from the shelter to stretch their legs and enjoy the world outside. By taking a pup out for the day, you give them the joy of a car ride, a long walk, or even a special treat like a pup cup. These simple adventures let our dogs soak up one-on-one attention. Every Dog Day Out helps reduce stress, makes them more adoptable, and gives them happy memories while they wait for their forever home. 💙

Unicorn Fostering

Unicorn fostering is for those truly special homes that can open their doors to pets with unique needs.

These dogs and cats may need a quiet space to recover from medical treatment, extra patience as they work through behavioral challenges, or a calm home without other pets or children.

By fostering a “unicorn,” you’re giving a vulnerable animal the chance to rest, heal, and feel safe. Something that’s hard to find in a busy shelter. Your care helps them rebuild confidence, prepare for adoption, and move one step closer to their forever home. 💜
